It is much harder to pull it up on the move than from a dead stop. But during those first initial rpm's while waiting for the belt to climb the sheaves, it does start to move forward.
Plus to compound things, there is a lag in power getting to the tranny because these autos are designed to build rpm's/hp before the movement begins so that they don't start off weak but rather start off in a sort of preload effect. That 4 stroke motor pushed in front of a big tranny is super heavy on the front.
