Sins should use VRAM for graphics use, though as it is a 32 bit operating system, it has limits to how much RAM of any sort it can use (2GB).

So if you had the choice between a hex core 2.8 GHz CPU and a quad core 3.5 GHz CPU, for Sins the faster Quad core would be much better. A dualcore allows your operating system and other programs to use the second core, but anything beyond a quad core will probably not be used. Unforunately the Engine Sins is built on was right before consumers started transitioning to multicore PCs, so it mainly utilizes on CPU core. For Sins and most other RTS games your processor is the most important thing. Can anyone give me some advice?īattle slowdown like that is most likely due to to so much going on that your processor can't keep up with all the action.

I've never been able to play large games with large fleets, and it would be awesome to finally be able to. I'm hoping to get something that can handle even the largest battles relatively easily. I think I read that Sins doesn't use VRAM, but I can't remember where I read it so I could have confused it with something else. I'm no computer expert so I'm not really sure what would speed Sins up, whether its maximizing RAM, making sure the processor is top notch. I don't run maps larger than medium size with no more than four players, but usually I'm forced to stick to small maps/two players if I want the battles to be tolerable late game. I play a lot of Sins of a Solar Empire, so I was wondering what the best specs are to run this game smoothly.Īs it is right now, my framerate drops dramatically during larger battles, even down to the single digits if there are enough ships, even if I turn down video settings. I'm likely getting a new system in the next couple months or so.
